Beetles
What You Need To Know
All beetles progress through egg, larva, pupa and adult stages. Most of the eating and damage is done by the larvae. They are capable of feeding on a wide variety of items and aren't usually discovered until after the damage has been done. Carpet beetles may not eat at all.
Most of the beetles that pest control companies deal with are considered "stored product pests." Each year it is estimated that ¼-⅓ of the world's grain crop is lost to these types of pests. Stored product pests can enter the food chain at any point from the field on the farm all the way to the consumer's home.
We offer extermination services for beetles as well as moth removal services and bee exterminator services.
Types of Beetles
Carpet Beetle
- Actual size: 1/8" - 3/16"
- The carpet beetle larvae does the damage and sheds their skin. These skin molts can cause skin irritations. Carpet beetles feed on a variety of plant and animal fibers, including hair, dandruff, furs, wool, animal skins, book bindings, dry goods, and natural fiber clothing.
Ground Beetle
- Actual size: 1.5"
- Ground beetles are a nuisance indoors. They won't reproduce in houses and can't cause any structural damage. These insects also don't bite or sting humans. Some homeowners confuse the ground beetle with a cockroach. Ground beetles feed on earthworms, aphids, grubs and insect larvae.
Quick Fact
Your freezer is a great tool in the elimination of stored product pests found in the home. Putting food you suspect has been infested in the freezer for 7-10 days will eliminate the need to throw food away!
