Mosquitoes in Georgia just about require homeowners to have a battle plan in place if they want to be able to enjoy the outdoors during mosquito season. Georgia spring and summer seasons provide residents with some truly spectacular weather, but if you don't have home mosquito control in place, you can kiss those pool days or dinners on the deck goodbye.
When it comes to mosquito pest control, it's all about timing. So when should you spray your yard for mosquitoes?
You Have to Start Spraying Early
Mosquitoes get to enjoy a particularly long season in Georgia. Mosquito season starts once warmer weather becomes consistent in late March or early April, and finishes usually by the end of October or beginning of November. That's eight or nine months that mosquitoes get to wreak their havoc on Georgia homeowners!
If you're going to be following a mosquito prevention treatment plan, you should start in March. Why so early in the year? Remember that much of the mosquito's life cycle is aquatic. In the fall, water temperatures dip down and once they reach the 50s, mosquitoes shut down their life cycle and go dormant. In the spring, when water temperatures start to rise again and stay above 70 degrees, mosquitoes come out of dormancy and start reproducing again. Beginning a treatment plan in March guarantees that you will have a head-start on preventing the coming mosquito population from taking over your yard.
You Have to Spray Often
Even the most chemically advanced pest control sprays will need to be applied more than once in order to keep you and your home protected. Outdoor sprays have to combat rain, lawn maintenance, and foot traffic, and will inevitably wash away or have significantly reduced results.
